Due to the current restrictions on social gatherings, no uniform fitting date has been identified.  For that reason, we are not accepting payment currently.  CQL has not cancelled the season, so keep your fingers crossed we will all be able to see each other soon, and have a fantastic fall football season!!

Please note - we are a volunteer organization.  That means, we need many volunteers to help with a multitude of tasks throughout the season.  Each family is responsible for filling at least 4 volunteer spots per season.  We recognize that not every family has the time or desire to volunteer.  We have added a non-volunteer fee for this reason.

**Considerations for play downs**
CQL has modified the rules for the weight limits.  Please note that the "play-down" players will be assigned by the Directors, David and Lindsey Gwaltney, in August.  Sign your player up for their correct age, and email [email protected] if you think your player might be eligible.  All the requests will be assessed, along with needs of the different levels.
Rules from the CQL bylaws section 16.5:

"E) Minor teams at the initial team weigh-in will be allowed to have a maximum of four (4) ten year old players that weigh less than 85 pounds and can play unrestricted. [Updated 4/9/19]
F) Junior teams at the initial team weigh-in will be allowed to have a maximum of four (4) twelve year old players that weigh less than 100 pounds and can play unrestricted. [Updated 4/9/19]
G) Senior teams at the initial team weigh-in will be allowed to have a maximum of four (4) fourteen year old players that weigh less than 150 pounds and can play unrestricted. [Updated 4/10/18]

Players are striped based on the weight for the level they choose, are not considered playdowns, and cannot switch levels once the season has begun. [Added 1/17/17]
I) Players that turn 10 between August 1 and September 30 of the year they participate must choose to play either Junior or Minor at least one full week prior to the first regular season game. Soft Helmets for Flag Football Players

MAA is not providing soft helmets for Flag Football Players.
The rationale for this is multi-layered, but there are several points at the forefront.
It is the opinion of the MAA Football directors and several MAA Board members, that soft helmets for Flag Players are not necessary, nor do they prevent concussions.
I have reviewed several studies and articles surrounding the concept of the soft helmet.  There is research to suggest that not only do they not protect players from concussions, but they could actually lead to increase injury.  By wearing a soft helmet, it could provide the player with a false sense of head protection and potentially increase the amount of contact a player has with another.  We all know that flag football is non-contact in nature, but reality provides us with the understanding that contact does happen.  If a player is wearing a soft helmet, they may feel more confident that they are protected and will have contact with another player, and in some cases even lead the charge with their head, putting their head/neck at increased risk for injury.
I want to provide a safe environment for all players.  I do not believe that adding a soft helmet to a flag football player will provide any additional safety measures.
